Insta360 X3: Absolute Game-Changer for Fishing Videos
Hey everyone! I want to share why you should consider using the Insta360 X3 for your fishing or outdoor channel. Initially, I didn’t want to reveal this secret because it might make my videos look less special. But I genuinely want to see you all succeed, so here’s why the Insta360 X3 is, hands down, the best action cam for our niche.
Versatility and Creative Freedom
One of the coolest features of the Insta360 X3 is its ability to capture 360-degree footage. This means you don’t have to aim the camera before hitting record – it sees everything! After filming, you can reframe the footage, choosing the best angles and shots in post-production. Whether it’s front view, side view, or even a zoomed-in shot of you, the possibilities are endless.
Perfect for Kayak Fishing
I bought this camera because I needed multiple angles without cluttering my kayak with cameras. With the Insta360 X3, I get all the shots I want without the hassle. It’s like having a personal cameraman on board. The camera’s ability to capture a full sphere of video in 5.7K means I can aim the camera after the fact and follow the action wherever it happens.
Check out the angles I get in this recent video. You can see the Insta360 X3 mounted on the front of the kayak in the thumbnail:
I also use it for my paddleboard videos. I can place it on the front of a paddleboard like the Isle Switch Pro, and then get all the angles I could want from one camera.
To mount the Insta360 on the kayak, I use the Railblaza 600 camera arm. For the Switch Pro Paddleboard, all I need is this $6 adapter from Amazon and the included Insta360 selfie stick.
The Magic of Reframing
Reframing is the key to this camera’s success. You can set keyframes to follow the action smoothly, making your videos look dynamic and professional. This is particularly useful for kayak fishing, where the action can happen anywhere around you. The camera allows you to capture it all and decide later what to show your viewers.
For kayak videos, the Insta360 software is pretty fast at reframing. For third-person POV vids, it take a little longer. And then for B-roll it’s super fast to get the angles you want.
So this does add some time and an additional step to the editing process. But the results are worth it.
Additional Cool Features of the Insta360 X3
The Insta360 X3 comes with several impressive features:
- Invisible Selfie Stick: It looks like the camera is floating in front of you.
- Third-Person Point of View: Using the Best360 backpack mount, you get a unique over-the-shoulder view.
- Wide Field of View: Provides a cinematic feel and allows for creative framing options.
- Aspect Ratio Flexibility: Quickly switch between different formats (16:9, vertical, etc.) for various platforms.
Reliable and Durable
Battery life is another strong suit. With three batteries, I can film almost all day. The camera alerts you when the battery is low, so you never miss a shot. Unlike my GoPro, the Insta360 X3 has been incredibly reliable with minimal issues.
I bought the battery combo, so I have 3 batteries and a charging base that charges all three batteries, so I rarely run out of battery unless it’s a long day of constant recording.
However, there are a few drawbacks. The external microphone port can be a bit tricky, especially in rough conditions. Also, the lenses are prone to scratching, but the newer Insta360 X4 has removable lens guards to address this issue.
The biggest drawback is the camera misses about 30 seconds of footage every 29 minutes because of the way it handles the files. But I hear this should be fixed with a software update in the near future.
TubeBuddy: My Secret Weapon
Alongside the Insta360 X3, I use TubeBuddy to optimize my YouTube channel. It’s been a game-changer, helping me grow from 900 to over 5,000 subscribers. TubeBuddy’s keyword research, thumbnail analyzer, and AI title generator are invaluable tools. Plus, their A/B testing feature helps refine content for better performance.
