Lemoren Windshadow Bait Finesse Rod Review: The Best Budget BFS Rod

Hey there! I want to share my thoughts on a rod I recently ordered—the Lemoren Windshadow. I believe it might be the best budget BFS rod out there.

First Impressions

When I first ordered the Lemoren Windshadow, I didn’t expect much for $50. However, this rod has completely amazed me. It quickly became my go-to rod for bait finesse fishing. In fact, I caught my first BFS fish—a trout—using this rod. Since then, I’ve had one of my best days trout fishing ever and caught two personal best trout with it, including a stunning golden rainbow.

Performance and Versatility

The Lemoren Windshadow is incredibly lightweight and flexible, making it perfect for casting light lures. I’ve successfully cast lures as light as 0.6 grams, like trout magnets and plastic wax worms. Despite its “noodle” nature, this rod has handled fish up to 20 inches, albeit with some effort.

I’ve paired the rod with two different reels—the Dark Wolf Ultra and the Aldebaran 22. Both combinations worked well, but I particularly loved using the Dark Wolf Ultra. This rod has made fishing more enjoyable, bringing back memories of my childhood fishing days with a Zebco 33.

Features and Design

The Lemoren Windshadow features Fuji guides and comes in four pieces, making it an excellent travel rod. It fits easily into a backpack, ideal for bike rides and spontaneous fishing trips. The handle is extremely comfortable, one of the best I’ve used.

Fully assembled it’s only 4’6″ long, so it is a short rod. It’s all glass, and it’s a bit “noodly”. well, more than a bit; I use it often like a “flick” style rod. But, it can handle up to a 4 gram lure, so it is truly one of the most fun rods for trout fishing. I’ve caught up to a 20″ trout on it. But even a decent-sized bass tends to dominate the Windshadow. So it’s a panfish and trout rod in my opinion.

One minor drawback is the rod’s gaudy design, with its sparkle purple metallic trim. Personally, I think a more subdued graphite gray would have been perfect. Additionally, I did experience the tip coming off during a snag, but this was a small issue.

What makes this the best budget BFS rod?

Overall, the Lemoren Windshadow has been one of my favorite purchases in 2022. For around $50, it’s a steal. It’s perfect for small streams, light lures, trout, panfish, and even small bass. It makes fishing fun – every catch is a blast. And that’s why it’s the best budget BFS rod in my opinion.

If you’re looking for a budget BFS rod, I highly recommend the Lemoren Windshadow. It’s made fishing more fun and enjoyable for me, and I’m sure it’ll do the same for you.
